We rely on the industry’s best laser machines, the Candela GentleMax Pro and Cynosure Elite iQ, to make sure you achieve those results. With these advanced technologies, your treatments are customized to your skin tone, ensuring safety and effectiveness every step of the way.
These two powerful, versatile dual-wavelength platforms were developed by the world’s leading medical aesthetic device manufacturers. Utilized by our rigorously trained registered nurses, electrologists, and laser technicians, every treatment at SEV will work towards helping you finally enjoy the hair-free skin you crave.
About the Candela GentleMax Pro
Candela is a leader in the medical aesthetic space, with a portfolio of devices used for permanent hair reduction, skin rejuvenation, tattoo removal, and more. As a trusted manufacturer and industry pioneer, Candela’s devices have been used in clinical settings and for research.
The Candela GentleMax Pro is the gold-standard laser device used in med spas and clinics all over the world.
This FDA-approved device features two types of lasers, Alexandrite and Nd:YAG, which travel at different wavelengths to better suit different skin tones.
The GentleMax Pro also boasts powerful energy output and immense versatility, which means it can be adjusted to every client’s unique needs.
Highly adjustable spot size, pulse duration, and fluence
Air Cooling Compatible
Performance and Efficiency The GentleMax Pro is one of the fastest and most versatile laser hair removal devices on the market. Its dual-wavelength capability makes it an incredibly effective option for all skin tones.
Its 755 nm Alexandrite laser offers the highest level of hair reduction for those with light skin tones (Fitzpatrick I-III). The 1064 nm Nd:YAG laser ensures safer, more effective treatments for dark skin tones (Fitzpatrick IV-VI), as it travels past the upper levels of the skin to target the hair follicle.
With many other additional settings, your nurse or technician can customize the GentleMax Pro’s spot size, energy output, and pulse duration to best treat your skin. This allows for the ideal balance of power and gentleness for every client.
Patient Comfort Large spot sizes and fast pulse durations help create faster and more tolerable laser hair removal treatments. The Candela GentleMax Pro is also compatible with a variety of cooling mechanisms that help mitigate pain and discomfort during laser hair removal treatments. At SEV, we use the Candela GentleMax Pro in conjunction with a cold air emitting device, and our clients report feeling little to no pain during appointments.
About Cynosure Elite IQ
Cynosure (now Cynosure-Lutronic) manufactures a broad range of medical aesthetic devices including Potenza, one of our favorite RF microneedling devices. It has pioneered many innovations in the beauty technology space, and its devices have been used in research to advance the industry.
The Elite iQ is a popular and widely used laser hair removal platform. It’s a leading competitor to the Candela GentleMax Pro, with the same dual-wavelength options making it suitable for all skin types. It’s incredibly versatile, so your laser technician or nurse can calibrate your treatment to your precise needs.
Versatile treatment options with adjustable spot sizes, pulse widths, and energy output
Compatible with air cooling attachment
Performance and Customization The Elite iQ boasts a broad range of treatment settings, while its dual-wavelength capability makes it an effective device for all skin tones. The Nd:YAG laser handpiece makes it an effective and safe option for clients with dark skin. The Alexandrite laser handpiece is ideal for clients with lighter skin, with studies showing a higher level of hair reduction in the long term.
As with the Candela GentleMax Pro, the Elite iQ has a broad range of settings, so your laser technician or nurse is in full control of the light repetition rate, fluence, and other metrics. Ultimately, your safety and results depend on your provider’s skills and experience level.
User Comfort and Safety Like the Candela GentleMax Pro, Cynosure Elite iQ is compatible with the air cooling technology we use at SEV. Larger spot sizes help speed up treatment time while maintaining the same (if not higher) level of efficacy. The combination of speedy appointments and air cooling makes for laser hair removal treatments that are nearly painless and extremely comfortable.
Comparing Candela GentleMax Pro and Cynosure Elite iQ
Both Candela GentleMax Pro and Cynosure Elite iQ deliver incredibly effective hair removal treatments, using the same types of laser technology. As both machines are dual-wavelength Alexandrite/Nd:YAG lasers, they work across the skin tone spectrum, and allow providers to select the right wavelength for each client. Both also offer a similar spot size, pulse duration, and fluence range, with very minor variations.
Finally, both the Cynosure Elite iQ and Candela GentleMax Pro are compatible with cooling devices like the Zimmer Cryo 6 that we use at SEV. This goes a long way towards reducing discomfort, and results in a nearly painless treatment experience.
From our team members’ perspective, there are some minor differences between the Elite iQ and GentleMax Pro. Treating clients requires a slightly different technique depending on the device, because of handpiece design. There are also some differences in set-up and calibration speed between the machines, although we find that both are incredibly fast with similar appointment times.
In other words, for our clients, there is virtually no difference in treatment experience. Your results depend on your technician or nurse, who is responsible for choosing the right wavelength and treatment settings for your skin.
Air Cooling With Zimmer Cryo 6
All laser hair removal treatments at SEV are accompanied by air cooling with the Zimmer Cryo 6. The Cryo 6 is connected to our laser machines. It features a hose that emits cold air before and after each pulse of the laser, cooling the skin and reducing discomfort significantly.
By lowering the temperature of the skin surface, studies show that air cooling not only decreases pain but also helps to limit side effects.
Benefits of Choosing Our Laser Machines
Across all SEV med spas throughout the country, our premium laser technology ensures our clients can enjoy safe, effective laser hair removal treatments.
Today, laser hair removal is safer, less painful, more inclusive, and more effective, thanks to the pioneering research and innovation carried out by companies like Candela and Cynosure-Lutronic.
These elite companies are at the forefront when it comes to medical aesthetic devices. Their development efforts have improved laser hair removal treatments in a few different ways, ensuring we can offer our clients the following benefits when they choose SEV for their treatment:
Effective for All Skin Tones
With both Nd:YAG and Alexandrite laser technologies in our machines, we can calibrate your treatment to your skin tone and deliver incredible results.
The Alexandrite laser (755 nm wavelength) is the industry’s most effective hair removal technology for patients with lighter skin tones (Fitzpatrick I-III) and dark unwanted hair. Studies show that it delivers a higher level of hair reduction within the same number of treatments, especially compared to other technologies like diode and IPL. Over time, the results also have better longevity, although this may vary from client to client.
Nd:YAG laser (1064 nm wavelength) is the only laser technology that’s truly safe and effective for those with dark skin tones (Fitzpatrick skin types IV-VI). It delivers light at a longer wavelength that penetrates through several layers of skin. The Nd:YAG laser avoids the melanin in the epidermis, targeting the base of the hair follicles directly. Studies show that, compared to other lasers, Nd:YAG delivers noticeable results while keeping the risk of side effects or complications low in those with deeper skin tones.
Better Hair Reduction
For laser hair removal to work, the light must create enough energy in the follicle to damage and deactivate it. Weaker devices, such as IPL hair removal machines or diode lasers, simply aren’t able to impact as many follicles, resulting in a lower percentage of hair reduction.
Studies show that Alexandrite lasers provide the best hair reduction, especially in the long term. The Nd:YAG’s results, while not quite as dramatic as the Alexandrite, are still impressive — especially in the long term.
The Candela GentleMax Pro and Cynosure Elite iQ not only use these targeted, research-backed lasers, but they also have other features that improve laser hair reduction efficacy, such as more controlled laser spot sizes and pulse duration.
EFFICACY RANGE OF DIFFERENT LASER HAIR REMOVAL TECHNOLOGIES
“The average long-term hair reduction reported for neodymium:yttrium-aluminum-garnet (Nd:YAG) laser ranged from 30 to 73.61%, Alexandrite laser ranged from 35 to 84.25%, and Diode laser ranged from 32.5 to 69.2%.” Source: Krasniqi, A., McClurg, D. P., Gillespie, K. J., & Rajpara, S. (2022). Efficacy of lasers and light sources in long-term hair reduction: a systematic review. Journal of Cosmetic and Laser Therapy, 24(1–5), 1–8:
High Standards of Safety
As FDA-approved medical devices, the Candela GentleMax Pro and Cynosure Elite iQ have undergone rigorous safety testing.
Because they allow us to treat clients with the right wavelength for their skin tone, there’s a lower risk of adverse events — especially for our clients with darker skin tones, who are at greater risk of experiencing burns or pigmentation changes.
In both devices, the maximum energy output is calibrated to the treatment spot size, based on client assessment and test pulses. This ensures that each pulse of the laser is never too intense, and limits the risk of adverse events.
Additionally, the compatible cooling helps keep the skin calm throughout treatment and further increases treatment safety.
About SEV Laser
SEV has become a household name for elite laser hair removal treatments. The advanced dual-wavelength laser hair removal machines we use are only one part of what makes the SEV experience unique.
Registered Nurses and Laser Technicians
While the type of laser matters, what’s far more important is the skills of the specialist. It’s your nurse, electrologist, or laser technician who is responsible for selecting the right settings based on a variety of factors, including your skin tone, sensitivity level, how many sessions you’ve already had, and the body part being treated.
It’s through their training and expertise that they can keep you safe while ensuring you experience the highest level of hair reduction.
Across all SEV locations, our team members are selected for their experience, qualifications, and their passion for helping others. Everyone on our team will always greet you with a smile, make sure you’re feeling comfortable, and answer your questions about everything to do with your treatment process. They undergo additional training and continuous education so they’re always up-to-date on laser hair removal best practices.
SEV Laser Prices

Still Have Questions?
Does Laser Hair Removal Work for Transgender People?
Yes, laser hair removal works incredibly well for transgender people. It eliminates unwanted hair with lasting results. It’s often recommended by doctors and surgeons as it can improve mental health outcomes or be used in preparation for gender affirmation surgery.
How Many Sessions Will I Need?
It's difficult to predict how many treatment sessions you'll need, as each person's hair growth cycle is so different. In general, you can expect body parts like the legs to respond faster than hormone-sensitive areas like the face. If you're undergoing hormone replacement therapy, you may also notice that how your body responds to treatment changes over time.
When Should I Start Laser Hair Removal Treatments?
The best time to start laser hair removal is as soon as you can safely do so. Seeing results takes consistent treatment, so the sooner you start, the sooner you'll achieve hair free skin.
What Is the Best Hair Removal for Transgender People?
Laser hair removal is the best laser hair removal for transgender individuals, as it offers lasting results without an arduous financial or time commitment.
Does Hormone Replacement Therapy Affect Laser Hair Removal?
Unfortunately, there’s limited research on the best practices for combining laser hair removal with hormone replacement therapy (HRT).
Trans women ask this question often since HRT can slow hair growth and make body or facial hair thinner. Some laser providers suggest starting laser treatments before HRT, as the laser can target darker hair more easily. However, this is largely anecdotal, and we find that many of our clients see excellent results while on HRT.
For trans men on HRT, testosterone will probably increase your hair growth. It means you may need more treatments but chances are you will still experience noticeable hair reduction from your laser treatments.
Are Laser Hair Removal Treatments Covered By Insurance?
Some insurance plans will cover or reimburse gender-affirming laser hair removal treatments at SEV. Speak to your doctor or your insurance provider to learn about your options.

Compliance status
We firmly believe that the internet should be available and accessible to anyone, and are committed to providing a website that is accessible to the widest possible audience,
regardless of circumstance and ability.
To fulfill this, we aim to adhere as strictly as possible to the World Wide Web Consortium’s (W3C) Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1 (WCAG 2.1) at the AA level.
These guidelines explain how to make web content accessible to people with a wide array of disabilities. Complying with those guidelines helps us ensure that the website is accessible
to all people: blind people, people with motor impairments, visual impairment, cognitive disabilities, and more.
This website utilizes various technologies that are meant to make it as accessible as possible at all times. We utilize an accessibility interface that allows persons with specific
disabilities to adjust the website’s UI (user interface) and design it to their personal needs.
Additionally, the website utilizes an AI-based application that runs in the background and optimizes its accessibility level constantly. This application remediates the website’s HTML,
adapts Its functionality and behavior for screen-readers used by the blind users, and for keyboard functions used by individuals with motor impairments.
If you’ve found a malfunction or have ideas for improvement, we’ll be happy to hear from you. You can reach out to the website’s operators by using the following email
Screen-reader and keyboard navigation
Our website implements the ARIA attributes (Accessible Rich Internet Applications) technique, alongside various different behavioral changes, to ensure blind users visiting with
screen-readers are able to read, comprehend, and enjoy the website’s functions. As soon as a user with a screen-reader enters your site, they immediately receive
a prompt to enter the Screen-Reader Profile so they can browse and operate your site effectively. Here’s how our website covers some of the most important screen-reader requirements,
alongside console screenshots of code examples:
Screen-reader optimization: we run a background process that learns the website’s components from top to bottom, to ensure ongoing compliance even when updating the website.
In this process, we provide screen-readers with meaningful data using the ARIA set of attributes. For example, we provide accurate form labels;
descriptions for actionable icons (social media icons, search icons, cart icons, etc.); validation guidance for form inputs; element roles such as buttons, menus, modal dialogues (popups),
and others. Additionally, the background process scans all the website’s images and provides an accurate and meaningful image-object-recognition-based description as an ALT (alternate text) tag
for images that are not described. It will also extract texts that are embedded within the image, using an OCR (optical character recognition) technology.
To turn on screen-reader adjustments at any time, users need only to press the Alt+1 keyboard combination. Screen-reader users also get automatic announcements to turn the Screen-reader mode on
as soon as they enter the website.
These adjustments are compatible with all popular screen readers, including JAWS and NVDA.
Keyboard navigation optimization: The background process also adjusts the website’s HTML, and adds various behaviors using JavaScript code to make the website operable by the keyboard. This includes the ability to navigate the website using the Tab and Shift+Tab keys, operate dropdowns with the arrow keys, close them with Esc, trigger buttons and links using the Enter key, navigate between radio and checkbox elements using the arrow keys, and fill them in with the Spacebar or Enter key.Additionally, keyboard users will find quick-navigation and content-skip menus, available at any time by clicking Alt+1, or as the first elements of the site while navigating with the keyboard. The background process also handles triggered popups by moving the keyboard focus towards them as soon as they appear, and not allow the focus drift outside it.
Users can also use shortcuts such as “M” (menus), “H” (headings), “F” (forms), “B” (buttons), and “G” (graphics) to jump to specific elements.
Disability profiles supported in our website
Epilepsy Safe Mode: this profile enables people with epilepsy to use the website safely by eliminating the risk of seizures that result from flashing or blinking animations and risky color combinations.
Visually Impaired Mode: this mode adjusts the website for the convenience of users with visual impairments such as Degrading Eyesight, Tunnel Vision, Cataract, Glaucoma, and others.
Cognitive Disability Mode: this mode provides different assistive options to help users with cognitive impairments such as Dyslexia, Autism, CVA, and others, to focus on the essential elements of the website more easily.
ADHD Friendly Mode: this mode helps users with ADHD and Neurodevelopmental disorders to read, browse, and focus on the main website elements more easily while significantly reducing distractions.
Blindness Mode: this mode configures the website to be compatible with screen-readers such as JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, and TalkBack. A screen-reader is software for blind users that is installed on a computer and smartphone, and websites must be compatible with it.
Keyboard Navigation Profile (Motor-Impaired): this profile enables motor-impaired persons to operate the website using the keyboard Tab, Shift+Tab, and the Enter keys. Users can also use shortcuts such as “M” (menus), “H” (headings), “F” (forms), “B” (buttons), and “G” (graphics) to jump to specific elements.
