When you hear the term “laser hair removal,” the face isn’t usually the first body part that comes to mind. This treatment is much more strongly associated with below-the-neck areas like the legs or bikini line.
However, if you’re unhappy with any of the hair growing on your face, laser could be the perfect treatment! It’s a long-term solution that saves you a lifetime of painful waxing or ingrowns from shaving.
Goodbye, upper lip hair, hello smooth skin! To learn more about how face laser hair removal works, give this post a read.

How Does Laser Hair Removal on the Face Work?

Laser hair removal works exceptionally well on a lot of types of facial hair, which is why folks of all genders come in for laser hair removal on the face. This treatment reduces hair that causes insecurity, prevents painful ingrowns, and helps achieve a neater look. You’ll usually need between 6 to 12 treatments to get desired results.
The laser identifies the hair follicle and zaps it with a strong pulse of light that damages it and inhibits regrowth. Just note that it’ll only work with darker hair, so if you’re concerned about hair light-colored peach fuzz or gray hairs, laser may not work for you.

Targeted Areas for Treatment

Face laser hair removal can cover a whole bunch of different areas! At SEV Laser, this is how we usually break it down:

  • Full face
  • Upper lip
  • Chin
  • Jawline
  • Cheeks
  • Sideburns
  • Neck

That said, we’re all about giving you the results you want. If you’d like to combine a few specific areas or address a part of your face we didn’t list, just let us know prior to your appointment!

Are There Any Risks or Side Effects From Facial Laser Hair Removal?

As with many other treatments that generate dramatic results, facial laser hair removal has a few common side effects. It also comes with risks, although they are quite rare.

Side Effects

The most common side effect of laser face hair removal is mild irritation, which can present as redness, swelling, tenderness, and/or itching. Normally, the irritation calms within a few days of your treatment.
As the hair starts to grow back following your earlier treatments, you may experience some ingrown hairs. If you’re acne-prone, you may also experience a mild breakout, although laser can help with acne in the long term. Using a mild exfoliant like salicylic acid a few days after your laser session will help reduce ingrowns or breakouts.

Risks

Laser hair removal also comes with some risks, although they’re not common at all.  In very rare cases, you can be at risk of burning the skin and ending up with severe irritation, blisters, scarring, and hyper or hypopigmentation. If this happens, it’s almost always because the customer went to a disreputable spa, neglected their aftercare, or was a poor candidate for laser hair removal in the first place.
That’s why we have you fill out a few important forms before your appointment! We do everything in our power to ensure that you come out of your treatment safe, happy, and smooth.
