To keep your skin truly hydrated between moisturizers, look no further than Skinvive.

Hyaluronic acid (HA) has long been used as an injectable to rejuvenate the skin and address volume loss, providing deep, lasting results with the added advantage of hydration from the inside out. SEV Laser has recently added Skinvive to our line of Juvéderm injectables. This revolutionary HA injectable refreshes the skin, corrects texture issues, and provides hydration for a healthy, “dewy” aesthetic.

While Skinvive shares some characteristics with traditional dermal fillers, it has one major difference: Its microdroplet formula allows it to be injected in extremely tiny amounts directly under the skin’s surface, in up to several hundreds of injections across areas like the cheeks. This distinct hyaluronic acid treatment has been groundbreaking when it comes to long-lasting skin hydration.

What Is Skinvive?

Skinvive by Juvéderm, originally marketed as Juvéderm Volite when released in Europe, is a hyaluronic acid-based microdroplet treatment. Unlike many dermal fillers, it is a non-volumizing, skin-boosting formula with the main focus of hydrating skin.

Skinvive was approved by the FDA for use in the U.S. in 2023. It’s safe for all skin types, and contains mainly hyaluronic acid, 1,4-butanediol diglycidyl ether (BDDE), and a small amount of lidocaine (a local anesthetic) for comfort during injection.

The consistency of Skinvive is a liquid gel rather than a more solid one, thanks to less HA crosslinking than firmer dermal fillers. It was originally approved for use across the cheeks and other facial areas before additional approvals were granted for the neck, upper chest, and backs of the hands.

Skinvive is what is commonly called a “Skinbooster” in the aesthetic field. It is the preferred skinbooster at SEV Laser, where our skilled injectors are specifically trained in the microdosing technique for optimal results.

How Does Skinvive Work?

Since HA is a humectant, it naturally attracts moisture from throughout your body, bringing it to the surface and giving your skin that fresh glow associated with youth and beauty. Skinvive takes this natural attribute of HA and magnifies it.

Your injector uses a technique known as microdroplet injection to administer tiny drops of Skinvive close together between upper layers of the skin for heavy hydration. This method has the advantage of enhancing skin quality without adding unwanted volume. The touch of moisture not only helps to hydrate the skin, but it also creates a smoother texture, reducing the visibility of pores or very fine lines.

Skinvive treatment can last for months and months before being fully absorbed by your body and discarded as a natural waste product by your lymphatic system. This means that Skinvive is the ultimate filler for long-term moisture retention and glow.

Top Skinvive Benefits

What is Skinvive used for? Here are the benefits our clients rave about the most.

Deep Hydration

Skinvive boosts moisture levels for dewy skin, and keeps even deeper layers of skin hydrated thanks to its moisture-attracting qualities. Your skin will just keep looking better over the first few weeks following treatment, and you’ll keep on reaping those benefits over the coming months.

Improved Skin Texture

While Skinvive doesn’t directly add volume, it indirectly plumps out fine lines and wrinkles thanks to increased hydration coming up through multiple layers of skin. It can also reduce roughness and pore visibility, to make your skin look smoother, achieving the “glass skin” effect that’s so in vogue.

Subtle and Natural-Looking Results

Since Skinvive isn’t designed to add volume, you won’t have excessive plumping where it’s not wanted. If you’re happy with the shape of your cheeks and jawline, but suffer from dry, dull, or textured skin, Skinvive microdosing can reduce your dependence on creams and hydrating facials.

Long-Lasting Effects

Unlike topical moisturizers or hydrating facials, Skinvive’s effects can last for months. Most people find that their results can last up to six months. Once you notice the effects dissipating, you can always book a new appointment to maintain your glowy skin.

Who Are the Ideal Candidates for Skinvive?

Anyone with dull, dehydrated skin or mild texture concerns will love how Skinvive can make the skin look and feel. It’s also a fantastic solution for people with dry or flakey skin seeking non-volumizing skin enhancement that leverages HA without any plumping.

Skinvive is safe and effective on all skin types, and is appropriate for anyone aged 21 years and up. Many people who try Skinvive notice that the need for certain skin products go down, and they don’t have to restock nearly as often. This makes the treatment an attractive option to those who regularly spend extra on products to maintain flawless skin.

Skinvive Treatment Areas

A natural place to start with Skinvive is the face. The face gets the most sun and wind exposure, so it’s more susceptible to the effects of photoaging. You can get Skinvive microdosing across your forehead, cheeks, and jawline for maximized, long-lasting facial hydration.

Next up, your neck and décolletage (upper chest) are also worthy treatment areas. These areas also tend to get more sun exposure, and may start showing signs of aging sooner than the rest of your body. Getting Skinvive injections can slow down visible signs of aging and give you a healthy, refreshed look.

Some say it’s not the face that reveals your age, but the backs of your hands. Many skin treatments focus on the face, but Skinvive can rehydrate and rejuvenate the backs of your hands as well, giving you a more youthful touch — literally!

Skinvive Procedure and Recovery

Skinvive is a quick, minimally invasive treatment. A treatment to one area usually takes as little as 15 minutes, or up to 45 minutes for multiple or larger areas. Check out our appointment information and instructions. Try to arrive for your appointment 30 minutes early. This gives us time to apply a numbing treatment so you can be comfortable by the time we start injecting.

One treatment of Skinvive normally includes anywhere from 50 to a few hundred injections. The injectable formula contains lidocaine which, combined with the numbing cream, ensures you only feel a little bit of pressure or mild pinching during the treatment.

Once we’re done, you can go back to your day. However, most people like to schedule Skinvive for a time when they can go home and relax afterwards.

Skinvive’s side effects are usually mild and only last a day or two. Common side effects include redness and mild swelling. In some cases, you might have some small bumps which should disappear in a few days as the microdroplets diffuse into deeper layers of your skin.

The timeline for Skinvive results is fast; your skin will experience immediate hydration as a result of the microdoses, and you’ll see the full effects showing on the surface of your skin about 2-4 weeks after your treatment.

Skinvive Aftercare and Maintenance

Post-treatment, you should follow all of your injector’s followup care and ongoing skincare recommendations. These typically include:

  • Avoiding alcoholic beverages for 48 hours
  • Avoiding intense exercise for the same length of time
  • Protecting your skin from direct sunlight
  • Not putting pressure on or massaging treated areas
  • Skipping skincare products containing retinol for a week

You can prolong your Skinvive results by:

  • Being extra careful of your skin routine in the summertime
  • Faithfully using sunscreen year-round
  • Having a healthy diet that supports skin health
  • Exercising to maintain skin elasticity
  • Hydrating properly

You’ll need to schedule regular maintenance treatments. At first, these may be needed every 3 or 4 months, but over time you may find that your results easily last 6 months and can simply book your appointments biannually.
