There are many treatments that promise smoother, tighter skin and no more wrinkles, which sounds like a dream to most of us. But it can also get confusing, which is why you might be interested in the differences between two of our most popular anti-aging treatments: Botox and Morpheus8. Both are remarkable at fading wrinkles, but they work differently. In this post, we’ll explain the differences and help you choose the right one for you.

What Is Botox?

Botox is one of the oldest and most trusted anti-aging procedures. It’s an injectable treatment that inhibits muscle contractions, an amazing medical effect that helps with everything from headaches to excessive sweating. In a cosmetic context, it’s amazing for softening or even totally erasing wrinkles caused by repeated facial movements, like forehead lines, crow’s feet, and frown lines.

What Is Morpheus8?

Morpheus8 is a treatment that combines microneedling with radiofrequency, to induce new collagen production. As we age, part of the reason why fine lines and wrinkles form is the loss of collagen, a protein that keeps our skin firm and stable. Morpheus8 is engineered to reduce wrinkles and improve overall skin firmness by boosting the skin’s ability to produce new collagen.

It’s a deep-reaching treatment that influences the skin on a profound level, energizing it and encouraging complete renewal. Because of this, Morpheus8 improves the look and feel of the skin in a lot of different ways.

The nurse providing the treatment can control the level of needle penetration and type of skin stimulation in order to achieve specific results. And it’s not just a facial treatment! Morpheus8 can actually be done on any body part.

Treatment Differences

Both Morpheus8 and Botox are anti-aging treatments that involve puncturing the skin with a needle. That’s where the similarities end. Here are all of the key differences and decision factors explained.

Mechanism of Action

Botox and Mopheus8 work in two very very different ways. As we already mentioned, Botox impacts the muscles that cause “dynamic wrinkles”. These are wrinkles that look significantly deeper and more visible when you raise your eyebrows, squint, or frown. By preventing those muscles from tensing up in the first place, Botox prevents wrinkles from forming.

Morpheus8, on the other hand, impacts the skin directly, encouraging it to produce new collagen. It works by creating small, controlled micro-injuries in the skin while energizing its deeper levels with radiofrequency energy.

This combination of effects triggers the skin’s natural repair mechanisms, leading to the new production of healthy proteins. Over time, having more collagen and elastin in the skin leads to a dramatic and visible reduction in all fine lines and wrinkles, as well as overall tighter skin.

Treatment Experience

Botox is a quick injection while Morpheus8 is a full facial treatment. If you only have 15 minutes to spare, that’s more than enough time to get your Botox injected. Your nurse will conduct a consultation to understand your goals, and then mark and inject your treatment area.

Morpheus8 is a full facial treatment where every inch of skin gets treated with the microneedling device. Treating the face usually takes between 30 minutes to an hour. It can hurt a little, but at SEV, we’ll have you apply a numbing cream to reduce the pain during the procedure. Afterward, your skin might be a little red and tender, but things return to normal soon.

Longevity

With Botox, you can expect to see progressive improvement within a few days of the treatment, and the full impact will show up within two weeks. That effect will usually last for two and three months until it slowly starts to fade. Most of our clients come in for Botox sessions at least three or four times a year, although, over time, many people find that they can come in less often.

With Morpheus8, the process is a little different. Depending on the results you want, we might recommend you schedule a series of treatments, in order to achieve more dramatic results. After your final treatment, you’ll see noticeable effects within three weeks or so. What’s incredible, though, is that your skin will continue to improve in the coming months, so you’ll look your best three months after that final treatment.

After that, it’s simply a question of maintaining your results with sunscreen usage and an excellent skin-rejuvenating skincare routine. With time, your skin will eventually continue to age, however, at which point you may want to come in for another Morpheus8 treatment.

Costs

Prices can vary from mespa to medspa, but generally, a Botox appointment will cost a few hundred dollars at most, while a Morpheus8 treatment will usually cost around $500-$1500, depending on the surface area being treated.

However, since the effects of Morpheus8 are so much broader and more long-lasting, it’s definitely worth the price! With Botox, the long-term costs are comparable since you’ll need more frequent follow-ups.

Which to Choose?

Ultimately, it’s a question of whether you’re looking for long-lasting, all-over skin renewal with Morpheus8 or to target a few dynamic wrinkles with Botox. Botox is the quick, easy, and targeted fix, while Morpheus8 practically reverses your skin’s aging process.

We’re huge fans of both treatments, and the reality is that you don’t have to choose. While we can’t offer Botox and Morpheus8 at the same time, you can schedule the two treatments a few weeks apart, and benefit from both effects. Morepheus8 will give you that all-over lift and smoothness, while Botox will target those dynamic wrinkles that drive you crazy.

If you’d like to try either anti-aging treatment, we have the expertise to deliver incredible results in a luxurious setting but with prices that won’t break the bank. Book your appointment at the nearest SEV.
