As a client, most of your laser hair removal results are in the hands of your technician. Even so, there are a few things you can do to ensure your laser hair removal is as effective as possible.

After all, you’re spending your precious time and money on this process. It only makes sense to do whatever you can to have the best results possible! Read our tips to guarantee you have a safe, comfortable, and highly effective laser hair removal experience.

Say No to Tanning

Tanning is a no-no both before and after laser hair removal. Whether it’s from the sun or from a bottle, a tan changes the base color of your skin and makes it harder for the laser to identify your hair. The closer your skin is to its base color, the better your laser hair removal results will be.

After laser hair removal, your skin will be sensitive, putting you at a higher risk of sunburn. It’s also worth mentioning that sun exposure can lead to health risks like sunburn, premature aging, and skin cancer – we think that’s a good enough reason to avoid the sun in general.

Avoid Tweezing and Waxing

For laser hair removal to work, the laser has to be able to reach the hair follicle. It does that by identifying the pigment in the root of the hair. That root acts like a conductor, delivering heat to the follicle which damages its ability to regrow hair.

That’s why, the moment you decide you’d like to try laser hair removal, you need to stop tweezing, waxing, sugaring, and any other method that pulls the hair out of the follicle.

Shave

Shaving is fundamental for effective laser hair removal. Make sure to shave around 24 hours before your appointment. If the hair being treated is too long, the laser will just zap the top part of the hair without being able to reach the follicle.

Be Consistent

Consistency is another key part of laser hair removal’s efficacy. We recommend booking your following laser appointment after every session, to make sure you don’t wait too long between treatments.

If you only remember to come in every few months, it’s much harder for the laser to target every follicle when it’s at its growth stage (i.e. when it’s receptive to the effects of the laser).

It’s recommended to undergo laser hair removal appointments every four to six weeks, which is the ideal time period for the skin to recover while still ensuring thorough, comprehensive results within the shortest amount of time.

Keep It Gentle

Better recovery means better results, so be extra gentle with the areas you’re getting lasered. That means keeping that area moisturized, avoiding the sun (which always bears repeating!), and skipping any harsh scrubs or peels.

Your nurse or laser technician will give you the full rundown on how to take care of your skin to make sure you don’t run into trouble.
